As many of you in the wrestling world know, today the 2011 Royal Rumble took place in Boston, Mass. The winner of the royal rumble match was Alberto Del Rio, who once was as a luchador in Mexico, when he eliminated Randy Orton (my favorite wrestler) and Santino Marella to earn a right to main event at Wrestlemania 27. To read more about the 2011 Royal Rumble, check out the World Wrestling Entertainment's website.
But another thing I would like to mention is that this is not the first time that a former luchador has won the prestigious event. Back in 2006, Rey Mysterio won the match despite being the second entrant in the match (usually 30 people enter the match, but this year's was different with 40). I included a YouTube video of the last moments of the match for you guys to watch, in case you want to see it or just relive the moment again.
Keep checking back for more blogs about lucha libre and the developments of Del Rio's winning of the royal rumble.

What is this?
Well to start off, my name is Christopher J. Valverde and I am a journalism senior at the University of Arizona. This blog is for my journalism class: Border Beat. It is an online publication run by students in the journalism department. The intention of this blog is to cover issues that relate back to the border. The topic of this blog will cover how sports in America is influenced by international style. What I am mean by international styles is how the games are influenced by the players from different countries, how the playing styles have changed and how the games have changed overall as a whole. I hope this blog will interest you and hopefully it intrigues you somewhat to read my upcoming posts.
